Asbestos removal licence - B class - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to operate a business that removes more than 10 square metres of non-friable (bonded) asbestos. Non-friable asbestos materials include asbestos cement sheeting, often called fibro, used in many Queensland buildings before 1990.

Where class B asbestos removal work is being carried out by more than 1 person, the licence holder must ensure a supervisor is readily available to the workers carrying out the asbestos removal work.

This licence does not authorise the removal of friable asbestos (class A asbestos removal work).

Eligibility requirements

A class B asbestos removal work supervisor must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • have at least one year of relevant industry experience
  • hold certification in CPCCDE3014 Remove non-friable asbestos or CPCCDE3015 Remove friable asbestos.

Application process

  1. Complete the application form and read the guide for asbestos applicants.
  2. Submit the application form, supporting documents and fee to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).
  3. WHSQ will contact you if any additional information is required.
  4. If approved, WHSQ will issue the licence to the PCBU.

Although a licence is not required to remove ten square metres or less of non-friable asbestos material, all asbestos removal work must be carried out properly using safe work procedures.

The licensed asbestos removalist must give written notice of 'licensed asbestos removal work' to WHSQ at least five days before the asbestos removal work is started.
