Chattel auctioneer licence - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to work as a chattel auctioneer, either as an individual or a corporation. This includes auctions of:

  • cars or other motor vehicles
  • livestock or agricultural equipment
  • art or collectables
  • any other items except real estate.

This licence allows you to:

  • conduct an auction of any chattels
  • attempt or offer to hold any of these auctions
  • sell them by any means during the auction period.

You can work alone, with others or as an employee of:

  • a chattel auctioneer
  • a motor dealer.

You must not auction any real estate without a property auctioneer licence.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be a suitable person
  • pass the required training courses.

A criminal history check must be done for each person whose date and place of birth are stated on the application form.

You may be eligible to be licensed under mutual recognition laws if you hold a comparable licence within another Australian state or territory or within New Zealand.

Application process

Apply

Submit either:

  • Form 1-1
  • Form 1-2.

Your application must include:

  • an application fee
  • a licence issue fee
  • a criminal history check fee for each person whose date and place of birth appear on the application
  • a certified copy of your birth certificate, birth certificate extract, passport, Australian citizenship certificate or driver licence. Proof of identity can be certified by a justice of the peace, commissioner for declarations, barrister, solicitor or notary public. (Note that none of the above are required to be provided for a renewal, provided that the name the licence was issued in has not changed or is otherwise requested.)
  • where in Queensland you propose to carry on business under the licence
  • the capacity in which you intend to perform activities under the licence and the address where this will occur (business address)
  • if you intend to be employed as a person in charge of a licensees business at a place of business - the name of your licensed employer and the address of the place of business where you are to be in charge (also a business address)
  • a certificate of completion of modules.

Processing time is between 4 and 6 weeks
