Commercial wildlife licence for dead macropods - Queensland

Description

You need this licence to buy, sell or process dead macropods.  This licence applies to a site or a premises as well as to a holder (a person or corporation).

There are three types of licence depending on your business activity:

  1. Dealer site - allows you to buy macropod carcasses and skins on site. This licence does not allow you to process the carcasses, meat or skins.  It is sometimes known as a 'field depot' licence.
  2. Meat processing works - allows you to process macropod meat at the site.
  3. Tannery - allows you to process macropod skins at the site.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility Requirements


Applicants must be 18 years or older.

The meat processing works works licence requires that your premises is in Queensland and is accredited as a primary producer of macropod meat under the Food Production (Safety) Act 2000.

The tannery licence requires that your premises is in Queensland and is the subject of either:

  1. an environmental authority under the Environmental Protection Act 1994, or
  2. a development approval under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009.

Ongoing Eligibility Requirements

You must maintain a record and return book for your licensed site. Returns must be given to EHP within 14 days after each month.

You must ensure that the macropods you purchase are tagged and are the authorised size and weight.  Size and weight requirements are specified in the harvest period notice for each harvest period.  Visit the harvest update for the latest information on the harvest period. 

Duration

This licence is effective for a period of 1 year or 3 years from the date of approval.

Additional Information

Licences will be sent by certified mail (receipted delivery) to the nominated person in charge of the site, as will any further correspondence. If the site is on a property, a GPS position, the distance from the homestead, the homestead name, property name and shire name must be provided.
