Driver authorisation for public passenger services - Queensland

Description

If you drive a motor vehicle providing a public passenger service in Queensland, you must hold driver authorisation, unless the service you provide is exempt.

Driver authorisation is a requirement under the Transport Operations (Passenger Transport) Act 1994 that a driver providing a public passenger service must attain and maintain to operate the vehicle.

The purpose of driver authorisation is to ensure drivers of public passenger vehicles are suitable persons, having regard to the safety of children and other vulnerable members of the community, the personal safety of passengers and their property, public safety and the reputation of public passenger transport.

There are different categories of driver authorisation for the different types of public passenger transport services. Drivers must hold the appropriate category of driver authorisation for the kind of public passenger service being provided. The driver must also hold a current driver licence for the class of vehicle they intend on driving.
