Private health facility approval - Queensland

Description

You will need this approval to build a new day hospital or a private hospital. Approval is required before you can commence building works for your new hospital or apply for a licence for the hospital.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

The agency will evaluate the:

  • financial capacity of the entity - individual or organisation - proposing to hold the licence
  • suitability of the individuals associated with the entity - reviewing their skills, knowledge and experience
  • design of the building - considering the type of hospital and services that will be provided. Your plans need to be reviewed by the Chief Health Officer as the concurrent agent for the Queensland Development Code: Mandatory Part 5 - Private Health Facilities before you submit them with your application.

The agency recommends you discuss your proposal with them before you apply.

Duration

Approvals are valid for 2 years. An application to extend the term of the approval by a further 2 years may be made.
