Security Firm Licence - Queensland

Description

You require this licence if you are a person, partnership or corporation who, for reward, supplies the services of

Class 1:

  • bodyguards, crowd controllers, private investigators, or security officers (cash in transit, unarmed, monitoring, dog patrol), and/or

Class 2:

  • security advisers or security equipment installers to others.

If you carry on business as a sole trader and personally provide the security services, you do not need a security firm licence, if you are the only person providing security services on behalf of the firm.

If your organisation sub contracts security services to others, you need a security firm licence.

If you employ security staff to protect your property, you do not need a security firm licence. The staff themselves must hold their own individual licences.

New applications for a security firm licence are required to provide evidence of membership with an approved security industry association before a licence can be granted.

A copy of the current membership certificate with the approved security industry association is sufficient evidence.

A list of approved security industry associations can be found on the Office of Fair Trading website www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au.
