Security Provider Licence - Class 1 - Queensland

Description

You require a security providers licence - individual - Class 1 if you are a natural person who offers the following function/s:

  • bodyguard
  • private investigator
  • crowd controller
  • security officer (cash in transit, unarmed, monitoring, dog patrol).

If you are entering the industry prior to completing the required training you can apply for a restricted licence. Restricted licence holders must be under the direct supervision of a licensed security provider who holds an unrestricted or open licence to perform the same function. A restricted licence is for a duration of 6 months and is not renewable and can only be applied for once. You must complete training and apply for an unrestricted licence within 6 months.

You can apply for a single function or multiple function licence.

What are the prerequisites to obtaining this authority?

It is a prerequisite to the issue of a licence that you complete an approved training course.

To obtain this licence you must:

EITHER

be at least 18 years of age;

AND

have completed an approved training course (unless applying for a restricted licence);

OR

if notifying under the Mutual Recognition (Queensland) Act 1992 or under the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition (Qld) Act 2003 be authorised to practice an occupation equivalent to the Queensland occupation covered by this licence in a participating State or Territory or in New Zealand.

Please Note: applicants who hold a New South Wales provisional security licence are not eligible to apply for security licences in Queensland under the Mutual Recognition Act. Queensland does not have an equivalent provisional licence. In order to be eligible to apply for a security licence under the Mutual Recognition Act the applicant must hold an unrestricted licence.

Duration

This licence will remain in effect for 12 months or 3 years. You will be issued with a renewal notice annually or every 3 years, approximately 6 weeks before the expiry date.

Fingerprinting

Transfer

You cannot transfer this licence.

Additional Information

All security providers must be fingerprinted by the Queensland Police Service. After the lodgement of your application, you will receive a letter from the agency that details the process for having your fingerprints taken.

Applicants must undergo a criminal history check to confirm their suitability. The criminal history check applies to each person who appears on the application form. The fee applies to all applications and renewal notices.

It is possible for you to amend your licence to authorise the carrying out of the functions of an additional type of security provider - Class 1 (other than a security firm).

You must provide:

  • a completed Form 1-1 which indicates the additional functions you will perform;
  • 100 points of identification, including at least 1 primary document, as stated on the application form.
  • your current licence number;
  • a copy of your certificate of attainment of the appropriate modules for the combined licence; and
  • payment of applicable fee.
