Stock grazing permit for state forest land - Queensland

Description

A stock grazing permit may be granted with respect to land in any state forest or timber reserve in Queensland under the Forestry Act 1959.

A stock grazing permit is on form of authorisation to graze stock on state forest land in Queensland. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) is the administering agency for stock grazing permits on state forest land.

Where state forest land is subject to timber plantation licence, HQPlantations is the administering agency for stock grazing permits.

Another type of grazing authority is a lease for grazing purposes under the Land Act 1994.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must meet the suitability requirements. A stock grazing management plan is required to be submitted with the application form. 

QPWS is required to ensure the permanent preservation of the land and for the purpose of producing timber and and associated products in perpetuity, and protecting the watershed values of the area.

In assessing the an application for a stock grazing permit on state forest land, QPWS will consider the benefits of grazing the area, the desirability of conservation of soil and the environment, the protection of water quality, and the possibility of the area being used for recreational purposes.

Duration

Permit is issued for up to ten (10) years.

Statutory fees apply to stock grazing permits. Refer to the schedule of fees. Fees are paid annually in advance as indicated on the permit.

Application process

An application form with all supporting documentation attached should be submitted to QPWS. Additional information on how to apply can be obtained by contacting QPWS.

Transfer

Stock grazing permits on state forest lands are transferrable. The written consent of QPWS is required. The permit holder is required to submit a transfer application signed by the current permit holder and the new applicant.
