Theatrical Ordnance Supplier Licence - Queensland


You require this licence if you supply, on a temporary basis, blank fire, rendered inoperable or replica weapons used in theatrical, film or television production.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility Requirements

You must:

  • be at least 18 years of age;
  • have adequate knowledge of safety practices relating to the use and maintenance of weapons for the category of weapons applied for by completion of the 30655 Qld Course in Firearms Safety
  • not be disqualified by the Weapons Act from holding a licence
  • be a fit and proper person with specific reference to mental state, misuse of drugs and/or firearms, offences involving violence or threatened violence, and not be subject to an order under the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 1989
  • have storage facilities which comply with Section 30-38 of the Weapon Regulations 1996. The facilities must be approved by an Authorised Officer; Section 30-38 Weapon Regulations 1996
  • have evidence of your involvement in film, television or theatrical production industries; and experience in the use of weapons within this industry
  • have a registered business name
  • obtain local council authority for the premises.


This licence may remain in effect for a maximum term of five years.

You can transfer this licence.

In the case where you sell the business, the licence may be transferred to the new proprietor if they are a fit and proper person and they comply with the appropriate Section of the Act.

The purchaser must be a person to whom the licence would have been issued. All information required for the original application must be submitted.

You can transfer this licence by submitting a completed a Form 4D, Change of Business Particulars - Other Reasons, Application for a Licence, Form 1 Annexure-Other Reason, Firearms List and Proof of Identity Declaration to a Queensland police station. If these forms are not received prior to expiry of the licence, the onus is on you, as the licensee to obtain renewal forms from a Queensland Police station.

If an authorised officer approves the transfer, the purchaser is taken to be the holder of the licence from the time the sale is finalised until the licence is formally transferred or a fresh licence is issued in the purchaser's name for the balance of the original licence's term.
