Aboriginal Heritage Authorisation - South Australia

Description

You will need this authorisation to:

  • excavate land for the purpose of uncovering any Aboriginal site, object or remains
  • damage, disturb or interfere with any Aboriginal site, object or remains
  • sell or dispose of an Aboriginal object
  • remove an Aboriginal object from the State.

You may need a local heritage agreement before you make your application for authorisation. Local heritage agreements are agreements between an entity that intends to interfere with an Aboriginal site, object or remains and a recognised aboriginal representative body (RARB) regarding the entity's intended activities. RARB's consult with and represent the view of the Traditional Owners of heritage that is under threat of impact.

Please lodge your completed application with supporting documentation and fee payment with the agency.

Additional information

If you have entered into a local heritage agreement with an RARB in respect of your intended activity, please use the Application for Authorisation under Sections 21, 23 and 29 of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1988 to apply for agency approval of your local heritage agreement.
