You will need written approval if you intend to undertake specified activities within a wilderness protection area or zone. South Australia contains 14 wilderness protection areas, which comprise large unmodified tracts of land which retain their natural character. Specified activities include:
- use of vehicles
- use of aircraft
- use of vessels
- camping
- lighting fires
- possession and use of chainsaws
- use of generators and alternators
- use of metal or mineral detectors
- possession and use of firearms
- swimming and diving
- use of caves
- rock climbing, abseiling or sand boarding
- interfering with animals, plants and earth material.
