Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes - South Australia


You will need to comply with this Code if you use animals for scientific purposes. The Code applies to all aspects of the care and use of animals when the aim is to gain, develop or demonstrate knowledge or techniques in any area of science, including:

  • medicine
  • biology
  • agriculture
  • veterinary and other animal sciences
  • teaching and education
  • environmental studies.

The Code sets out the responsibilities of investigators, animal carers, institutions, animal ethics committees and animal carers in relation to the ethical, humane and responsible care and use of animals for scientific purposes.
