Authorisation to Use, Handle or Store Prohibited and Restricted Carcinogens - South Australia

Description

You will need this authorisation if you intend to use, handle or store a prohibited or restricted carcinogen. Exposure to carcinogens may have serious health-related consequences if adequate measures are not in place.

Restricted and prohibited carcinogens are listed in Schedule 10 of the Regulation. If you have provided notification of continuing work with a carcinogen in accordance with the requirements within the last five years, you will not require this authorisation until the five years expire.

Please note that prohibited carcinogens can only be used, handled or stored for genuine research or analysis.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this authorisation, you must provide:

  • your name and business address
  • if you conduct your business or undertaking under a business name, that business name
  • the name and address of the supplier of the carcinogen
  • the address where the carcinogen will be used, handled or stored
  • the name of the carcinogen
  • the quantity of the carcinogen to be used, handled or stored at the workplace each year
  • the purpose and activity for which the carcinogen will be used, handled or stored
  • the number of workers that may be exposed to the carcinogen
  • a summary of the steps to be taken in relation to hazard identification, control measures and why the elimination or substitution of the carcinogen is not reasonably practicable.

Unlimited unless cancelled.
