Basic Permit to Keep and Sell Protected Animals (Fauna Dealer) - South Australia

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to keep or sell protected animals in the course of carrying on a business of dealing in protected animals. This permit relates only to protected animals of the species listed as basic in Schedule 6 of the National Parks and Wildlife (Wildlife) Regulations 2019.  Animals listed as basic species are common in captivity and/or in their natural habitat, the keeping and selling of which has a minimal effect on naturally occurring populations.

Animals must be lawfully obtained, such as through captive breeding or purchase from a licensed dealer.

You will not require a permit if you intend to keep only a single animal. You will require a permit, however, if you intend to sell or give away that single animal.

You will be entitled to trade an animal of a basic species after you have held the animal due for trading for 7 days. If you wish to trade before you have held the animal for 7 days, you must obtain a clearance from the agency.

Please contact the agency for more information.
