Code of Management for the Farming of Emus - South Australia


You will need to comply with the Code of Management for the Farming of Emus if you intend to conduct emu farming.

The Code of Management adopts the Australian Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals - Husbandry of Captive Bred Emus. This sets out the minimum standards for the safe treatment and lawful farming of emus, including with respect to:

  • housing, handling, and yard facilities
  • food, water, and equipment
  • hatchery management
  • humane slaughter.

The Code applies to all forms of emu farming and management.
