You will need a consignment authorisation to transport a specific type of waste (including controlled waste) from a consignor (a producer or someone acting on the producer's behalf) to an EPA-licensed receiving facility. This authorisation may be issued by the EPA or a licensed receiving facility.
Controlled waste is any that can harm human health and the environment if it is not managed properly. It is produced by:
- Industrial or commercial activities
- medical, nursing, dental, veterinary, pharmaceutical or other related activities
- activities carried out on or at a laboratory
- an apparatus for the treatment of sewage.
