Dangerous Goods Vehicle Licence - South Australia

Description

You may need this licence if you intend to transport dangerous goods by vehicle in a receptacle with either:

  • a capacity of more than 500 litres
  • a capacity of more than 500 kilograms.

If dangerous goods are being transported by a combination vehicle, each unit requires a licence if transporting a licensable amount.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must ensure that your vehicle is:

  • compliant with the ADG code
  • roadworthy.

Those who intend to transport liquid or gaseous dangerous goods in a tank on their vehicle must meet additional requirements:

  • the tank must be an approved tank
  • the vehicle complies with chapters 4.4 and 6.9 of the ADG code.

In addition, the vehicle must be covered by a policy of insurance that indemnifies the vehicle for the carriage of dangerous goods with a minimum of $5,000,000 cover for clean-up and emergency services costs.
