You must be registered with the Dental Board of Australia to practise as a dental practitioner. Registered dental practitioners assess, prevent, diagnose, advise on and treat oral health issues and, depending on their qualifications and experience, may use the respective protective titles titles:
- dentist
- dental specialist
- dental therapist
- dental hygienist
- dental prosthetist
- oral health therapist.
There are five types of registration offered to practitioners:
- general
- specialist
- limited
- non-practising
- student.
