Driver Accreditation - South Australia


You will need driver accreditation if you drive a public passenger vehicle for hire, fare or reward. A public passenger vehicle includes taxis, rideshare vehicles, chauffeured vehicles and buses.

You may apply for driver accreditation in any of the following categories:

  • taxi
  • small passenger
  • large passenger
  • motorcycle
  • horse drawn.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation you must:

  • hold a current full South Australian driver's licence, not subject to any conditions
  • have held a full Australian driver's licence for a minimum of six months
  • be eligible to work within Australia
  • be able to speak, read and write English competently
  • have a valid Working with Children Check
  • have a National Criminal History Check
  • meet minimum requirements for fitness, medical and eyesight assessed by a medical practitioner in accordance with the National Assessing Fitness to Drive guidelines for commercial vehicle drivers.

If you intend to provide rideshare services, you will also need operator accreditation.

If you are applying for taxi driver accreditation, you will need to complete an approved training course.

If you are applying for motorcycle accreditation, you will need to complete the Commercial Operators Motorcycle Course.

Please lodge your completed application with:

  • a copy of your Working with Children Check
  • a copy of your National Criminal History Check
  • your Certificate of Fitness - Commercial Vehicle Drivers completed by your doctor
  • if applicable, a copy of your Taxi Driver Training Course Completion Certificate
  • if applicable, a copy of your certificate of Completion - Commercial Operator Motorcycle Course.


This licence may be transferred in some circumstances.
