Emu Farming Permit - South Australia

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to conduct emu farming. Emu farming includes:

  • incubating emu eggs
  • breeding emus for commercial purposes
  • selling or slaughtering emus.

This permit will authorise you to:

  • take an emu or the eggs of an emu from the wild
  • slaughter or destroy by other means an emu in captivity
  • possess or control an emu or the eggs of an emu
  • sell an emu or the carcass or eggs of an emu.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an emu farming permit, you must:

  • be a member of an Emu Farming Association
  • have development approval to conduct emu farming on your property
  • demonstrate how you meet application criteria relating to the nature of your farming operations, boundary fencing, emu handling facilities and emu care
  • be aware of the requirements of the Australian Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals: Husbandry of Captive-Bred Emus.

An inspection of each site is required before your permit is approved.
