Environmental Authorisation Licence - South Australia


You will require a licence if you intend to undertake a prescribed activity of environmental significance. An activity of environmental significance has the potential or is likely to cause a significant impact on the environment. Environmental impact may include air pollution, noise pollution, the production of heat, the production of solid, liquid or gas waste.

This licence will entitle you to carry out an activity otherwise banned or restricted due to significant environmental impact.

Prescribed activities of environmental significance include:

  • chemical works and storage
  • mineral processing
  • resource recovery
  • waste transport or disposal
  • meat and fish processing.

You will not be issued a licence until local government development consent is obtained where required.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You must lodge an annual return with the agency containing information required by it by condition of your particular licence or by notice in writing provided to you.

You must also pay the annual authorisation fee prescribed for the activity or determined under the regulations.
