Export Permit (Wildlife) - South Australia

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to export protected animals out of South Australia to another Australian state or territory. A protected animal includes any species of mammal, bird or reptile which is:

  • native to Australia
  • migratory and occasionally migrates to, and lives in, Australia
  • specified as a protected species in the legislation.

This permit will authorise you to export a protected animal or the carcass or egg of a protected animal.

You will need a permit for each protected animal you will export before each animal is transported.

You will need a separate permit to export animals overseas.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You will need to comply with the requirements for containers of transport. Details can be found in the attached document.

All animals must be lawfully obtained, such as through captive breeding or purchase from a licensed dealer.

You will not need a permit to export unprotected animals.

If you hold a kangaroo processor permit or tannery permit, you may apply for a single permit for multiple consignments.

Duration

1 month from the date of issue of the permit or immediately after the consignment has taken place.
