Gas Distribution Licence - South Australia


You will need this licence if you intend to operate whole or part of a gas distribution system for natural gas or liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

A gas distribution system is a system of pipes and equipment for use for, or in connection with, the distribution and supply of gas to persons for consumption.

Licence holders must ensure that gas supplied by their distribution system:

  • is kept at a safe temperature and pressure
  • contains sufficient odorant
  • complies with the specifications as set out in the regulations.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a suitable person to hold the licence
  • ensure that your gas distribution system (or proposed system) has the necessary capacity to distribute gas safely
  • comply with any other conditions prescribed by the regulations.

You must also demonstrate one of the following financial requirements:

  • you have a long term credit rating of BBB or greater with Standard and Poor???s or Moody's
  • you are registered as a Market Participant by AEMO
  • you have operated as a licensee and held a retail licence in another jurisdiction for at least 2 years.
