You will need this licence if you intend to ride in a horse in a horse race at any race meeting.

A horse refers to a thoroughbred racehorse and includes a mare, filly, entire, colt, rig or gelding.

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • have either been previously licensed as a jockey or jockey apprentice, or satisfy the relevant agency that you are competent to ride racehorses
  • have the relevant qualifications, training and experience
  • be medically fit to carry out the roles, duties and responsibilities required to be a jockey
  • be a fit and proper person.
