You may need to comply with this code if you conduct a business that uses or produces hazardous chemicals or have a duty to manage the risks of hazardous chemicals.

This Code describes the type of information that is needed on labels for various hazardous chemicals. This enables users of the chemicals to identify any hazards associated with the correct classification of the chemical and take appropriate steps to eliminate or minimise the risks.

Following this code of practice will assist you achieve compliance with your legal obligations under work health and safety laws. However, compliance with such obligations may be achieved by following another method, if it provides an equivalent or higher standard of work health and safety than that set out in this code.

Under this code, duty holders include:

  • manufacturers and importers of hazardous chemicals
  • suppliers of hazardous chemicals
  • persons conducting a business or undertaking that uses, handles or stores hazardous chemicals.
