You will need this licence if you are a pharmacists or veterinary surgeon and you intend to possess or administer a Schedule 4 or Schedule 8 drug.
A Schedule 4 drug is a prescription only medicine or prescription animal remedy. A Schedule 8 drug is a controlled drug.
There are three licence types:
- Imprest licence for facilities where medicines are supplied from the pharmacy department of a hospital, or by an authorised seller of poisons, to a licensed health service or wards, theatres, departments or clinics
- Emergency stock licence for facilities which hold an emergency stock of medicines
- Supply of medicines licence for facilities which hold an imprest or emergency stock of medicines and are required to supply medicines not dispensed by a pharmacist.
