Registration of Property Identification Codes and Pig Tattoo Codes - South Australia

Description

You will need to register for a Property Identification Code (PIC) if you intend to run livestock on your property. You must also register any Pig Tattoo Codes granted in association with your PIC.

A PIC is needed to maintain a register of the locations of livestock and contact details of property owners or managers. This register is intended to be used in the event of an emergency affecting animals.

You will need a PIC if you have one or more:

  • horses
  • cattle
  • sheep
  • pigs
  • goats
  • deer
  • alpacas
  • buffaloes
  • donkeys
  • camels
  • mules
  • llamas.

You will also need a PIC if you intend to operate a commercial poultry egg and / or meat production business that is needed to have food safety accreditation.

Registration cannot be transferred.

Additional information

You will only need one PIC per property. Properties that have multiple blocks of land within 100 kilometres only need one PIC. Properties that have multiple blocks of land more than 100 kilometres apart must register for a PIC for each property.
