Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals: Husbandry of Captive-Bred Emus - South Australia

Description

You will need to comply with this code if you farm emus. The code applies to all forms of emu farming and management and to emu chicks, juveniles, yearlings and mature emus bred and / or reared in captivity.

The code sets the minimum standards for the care and well-being of emus that must be met under law when farming emus, including with respect to:

  • housing, handling, and yard facilities
  • food, water, and equipment
  • hatchery management
  • protection from predators, hazards, disease and distress
  • humane slaughter.
