Permit to Sell Protected Animals (Tannery and Skins) - South Australia

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to tan, or part process and sell the skins of kangaroos or other protected animals. A protected animal includes any species of mammal, bird or reptile which is:

  • native to Australia
  • migratory and occasionally migrates to, and lives in, Australia
  • specified as a protected species in the legislation.

This permit will authorise you to keep and sell the skins of kangaroos or any other protected animal belonging to the species specified on your permit.

You will need a separate permit to shoot and treat the skins of kangaroos as part of the kangaroo harvesting process.

You will need separate permits to import or export protected animals if you intend to trade in kangaroo products outside of South Australia.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must be a resident of South Australia and be the owner, managing director or public officer of the business to which the permit relates.

All kangaroo carcasses purchased or received must have been harvested in compliance with the requirements set out in the Regulations.

You can only purchase or receive kangaroo skins from interstate if they have been legally acquired under an approved kangaroo management program.
