Permit to Take Galahs and/or Little Corellas (By Trapping or from the Nest) - South Australia


A permit is required to take galahs or little corellas for the live pet trade. The Fauna Permit Unit grants permission to people to live trap or take young birds from nest hollows.

Conditions attached to permits ensure that animal welfare issues associated with hand-raising young birds are addressed and ensure no habitat destruction while taking birds from the hollows.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must obtain prior written permission from the landowner to be on land for the purposes of taking galahs or little corellas. This provision applies to private land, land held by a Minister, agent or instrumentality of the Crown and to unalienated land of the Crown.


By trapping - 3 months from date of issue; By taking from the nest - 3-4 months with permit expiry 31 December.


2019-2020 fees:
$90 Nest Permit
$90 Trapping Permit.
