Protected Animal Rescue Permit - South Australia

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to rescue protected animals from the wild for the purpose of short term rehabilitation and release. A protected animal includes any species of mammal, bird or reptile which is:

  • native to Australia
  • migratory and occasionally migrates to, and lives in, Australia
  • specified as a protected species in the legislation.

This permit allows you to rescue injured, sick or orphaned animals.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit you must:

  • demonstrate experience in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of wild animals
  • demonstrate knowledge of the requirements of keeping and caring for wild animals, relevant to the species to which the permit pertains
  • provide information to support why the animal is to be taken from the wild, how the animal kept and treated during rehabilitation, and how the animal is to be released back to the wild.

Duration

Permits are valid for 28 days from the date of issue.
