You will need this permit to rescue protected animals from the wild for the purpose of short term rehabilitation and release. A protected animal includes any species of mammal, bird or reptile which is:
- indigenous to Australia
- migratory and occasionally migrates to, and lives in, Australia
- specified as a protected species in the legislation.
You will be authorised under this permit to rescue injured, sick or orphaned animals.
You will not require this permit if you are already the holder of a Wildlife Carer Permit or Wildlife Rehabilitation Facility Permit for the species you intend to rescue.
You will require a separate permit to keep a protected animal deemed unfit for release.
