Description

You need to be registered to practise as an optometrist in Australia. Optometrists are involved in the measuring of vision, prescribing corrective lenses where necessary and detecting eye disease. The title of optometrist is protected and you must be registered to use it.

The types of activities considered a part of optometry may be updated or changed from time to time.

There are four different types of registration offered to practitioners:

  • general
  • limited
  • non-practising
  • student.

There is one endorsement for scheduled medicines available for optometrists with additional qualifications and expertise.
