Registration as a Veterinary Surgeon - South Australia


All persons and entities wishing to practice as veterinary surgeons or veterinary specialists, or carry out any acts of veterinary treatment (which includes diagnosing a condition) must be registered in each state where they carry out any such treatment (that is, where the animal is).

Anyone dealing with animals must have a firm understanding of the Animal Welfare Act and Regulations, and if using any drugs, the Controlled Substances Act and Regulations.

Eligibility requirements

Those with eligible qualifications from approved tertiary institutions.




2019-2020 fees:
$240 for entry to the general register
$697 for registration on the general register for the calendar ending 31 December
(if registering in December, a reduced fee of $168.00 applies).
