Restaurant and Catering Liquor Licence - South Australia


You will need this licence if you are food provider and intend to sell liquor at the licensed premises. A food provider includes restaurants, cafes, and catering businesses.

You will be entitled under the licence to sell liquor to:

  • persons dining at the licensed premises consuming a meal provided by you
  • persons attending a function at which food is provided
  • persons seated at a table at the licensed premises
  • persons engaging in a cooking course held by you.

The provision of meals must at all times be the primary service provided by the business under this licence.

You will need to lodge your completed application with:

  • two floor plans of the venue
  • a copy of the lease agreement, landlord permission, or certificate of title
  • supporting documentation if you are applying as a partnership, company, or trust.

Additional information

You will need to specify whether you intend to supply liquor at:

  • your premises (restaurant)
  • away from the premises (catering)
  • both your premises and other locations.

You will need to have a responsible person supervising the premises at all times that the premises is open for trade. A responsible person is:

  • the licensee
  • a director of the licensee (where the licensee is a company)
  • a person approved by the Commissioner as a responsible person.
