Security Industry Training Provider Approval - South Australia


You will need approval if you intend to carry on a business that provides security industry training.

Security industry training includes:

  • training to provide qualifications required for a person to be eligible to hold a security agents licence
  • training to meet the requirements of a training condition attached to a security agents licence
  • training to authorise the holder of a security agents licence to perform crowd controlling.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You will need to complete a Personal Information Declaration to be able to apply for this licence (unless you have already provided one for another current licence).

If you have lived overseas in the past 2 years, you will need to provide a police certificate from the country where you lived and a copy of your passport. If you cannot provide the overseas certificate, you may complete a statutory declaration and include a copy of your visa grant notice.

You must be a fit and proper person to obtain security industry training provider approval. This is assessed according to the same standards as a security industry trainers licence, including:

  • your reputation, honesty and integrity
  • the reputation, honesty and integrity of your associates
  • other factors relevant to the performance of functions authorised under a security industry trainers licence.

This approval cannot be transferred.

Additional information

You will not be able to apply for this approval if:

  • you have legal restrictions on your work such as bankruptcy, financial receivership, suspended or disqualified trade licence
  • you have been a director of a company wound up to pay creditors in the past five years, including if you were a director six months prior to the winding up
  • you have committed a criminal offence.

Security industry training is not required by the holder of a licence which only authorises the performance of functions relating to security alarm or surveillance systems.

All security training sessions must be conducted by a licensed security industry trainer.

You may need to be fingerprinted as part of the application process.
