South Australian Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals in Circuses - South Australia


You will need to comply with this Code if you care for, control or manage animals as part of a circus.

The Code sets the recommended standard for the management and regulation of circuses in Australia for the purpose of animal welfare and human safety.

The Code sets out requirements relating to:

  • housing, exhibition, and transportation
  • behavioural training
  • breeding
  • health and euthanasia
  • emergency response and first aid.

The Code also sets out species-specific requirements.
