If you intend to deliver a training course for shot-firing, you must have the course approved by WorkSafe Tasmania and instructors must be accredited. Short-firing means priming and / or firing explosives. There are eight categories of shot-firing:
- underground - tunnelling, underground or undersea mining
- surface - road construction, open-cut mining, above-ground quarrying
- structural - building construction, building demolition and civil engineering work without any underground component
- pyrotechnical - firing fireworks in fireworks displays
- special events - firing canons or similar equipment at tourism venues or historical re-enactments or musical or theatrical performances
- agrarian - land clearing or other agricultural or forestry operations
- exploratory - geological exploration, or in seismological, paleontological or other scientific research or experimentation
- special operations - not covered by any other category of shot-firing.
