You are required to apply to be able to practice law in Tasmania. Admission to the legal profession will allow you to work as any of the following:
- legal practitioner
It is required that a person intending to practice law will:
- obtain the necessary academic qualifications
- be admitted to practice law in Australia
- abide by any rules applicable under the Act
- hold a current Australian practising certificate.
All new local legal practitioners must engage in supervised legal practice for a prescribed period of time.
Please note that separate application requirements apply to local applicants, interstate practitioners, New Zealand practitioners, and practitioners from overseas. If you intend to practice law as a corporation, you must apply for a notice of intention to provide legal services.
