Approval for Training in Shot-Firing - Tasmania

Description

You will need this approval if you intend to receive training in shot-firing of any category. Shot-firing means priming and / or firing explosives. There are eight categories of shot-firing:

  • underground - tunnelling, underground or undersea mining
  • surface - road construction, open-cut mining, above-ground quarrying
  • structural - building construction, building demolition and civil engineering work without any underground component
  • pyrotechnical - firing fireworks in fireworks displays
  • special events - firing canons or similar equipment at tourism venues or historical re-enactments or musical or theatrical performances
  • agrarian - land clearing or other agricultural or forestry operations
  • exploratory - geological exploration, or in seismological, paleontological or other scientific research or experimentation
  • special operations - not covered by any other category of shot-firing.

To be eligible for this approval, you must:

  • be at least 17 years and 9 months of age
  • be a fit and proper person
  • demonstrate a legitimate need for the training.
