Approval of a Funeral Trust - Tasmania


You will need this approval if you operate a funeral business and intend to offer prepaid funerals. A prepaid funeral is a funeral in which:

  • the funeral arrangements are predetermined
  • a contract is signed
  • money is paid in advance by the person for whom the funeral will be for.

All monies received must be deposited into an approved funeral trust, and a custodian must be appointed as manager of the trust.

To be eligible for approval you must appoint a custodian of the funeral trust.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will need to submit an annual return form by 31 December every year.
