Approval to Operate an Accommodation Sharing Business - Tasmania

Description

You will need this approval if you intend to participate in the sharing economy by renting your home, shack or investment property.

There are minimum standards for occupancy levels, plumbing and toilets, fire safety, off-street parking, bushfire planning and heritage provisions which must be adhered to and may vary between councils. This approval applies if either:

  • the accommodation is not used by you as your main place of residence
  • if visitors can book more than four rooms in your accommodation.

This approval does not apply if your accommodation falls under the 'home sharing' exemption, which applies if the dwelling is used by you as your main place of residence and either:

  • is let out to visitors while you are on vacation
  • not more than four bedrooms are let out to visitors.

Short stay accommodation providers need to list relevant planning permit information on their chosen online booking platform.
