In order to harvest tree ferns, you will need to have the permission of the landowner. Tree fern harvesting is only permitted on a salvage basis from areas to be logged for conversion or clearance for agriculture, plantation or infrastructure (e.g. roads). Tree ferns can only be harvested from areas scheduled for operations within one year.

Tree ferns can only be harvested from an area covered by a Forest Practices Plan that specifically authorises tree fern harvesting. Forest Practices Officers must estimate the numbers of tree ferns available for harvesting within the coupe and give this number on the Forest Practices Plan cover sheet.
