You will need this approval if you intend to provide alcohol ignition interlock systems in vehicles as part of your business operations. An alcohol interlock is a breath-testing device that is connected to a vehicle's ignition and stops a driver starting a vehicle (known as a lockout) if they have been drinking alcohol.
To become an approved provider, you must be contracted by the relevant authority. Approved providers can:
- provide interlock systems to be installed in motor vehicles and motorcycles
- establish, operate or maintain services centres where interlocks can be installed, tested, maintained, repaired, adjusted, serviced or removed
- download monitoring data (information recorded by an interlock) as part of a service or removal of an interlock device
- prepare a performance report as part of a servicing procedure that includes information about monitoring data collected or the effects of any software updates on the unit.
