You will need to comply with this standard if you:
- own infrastructure and intend to install an underground petroleum storage system
- intend to replace storage systems or repair certain components of storage systems.
The new, replacement or repaired storage system will need to incorporate the mandatory equipment and be designed and installed in accordance with the standard. Following the installation of a new system and before the storage system is used for the first time an equipment integrity test (tightness test) must be conducted.
This standard sets out requirements and recommendations for the design and installation of underground petroleum storage systems for the storage of petroleum products or used oil, and provides requirements for the operation, maintenance, testing, repair and re-use of new and existing underground petroleum storage systems. This standard also sets out inventory control and loss investigation procedures that are appropriate to underground petroleum storage systems.
