Asbestos Removal Licence - Tasmania


You will require this licence if you intend to carry out the removal of asbestos or asbestos-containing materials. There are two classes of licence:

  • Class A licence: authorises you to remove both friable and non-friable asbestos, and asbestos-contaminated dust (ACD).
  • Class B licence: authorises you to remove non-friable asbestos or ACD associated with the removal of non-friable asbestos.

A licence is not required to remove less than 10 metres of non-friable asbestos, but it must be undertaken in accordance with the relevant code of practice.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.


You may not be required to apply for this licence if you hold an equivalent licence in another State or Territory.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU)
  • provide evidence that you are at least 18 years old
  • provide evidence that you have completed the appropriate training
  • provide evidence of at least 3 years (class A) or 1 year (class B) previous industry experience
  • comply with any additional evidence requirements
  • submit the application form with all other supporting documentation
  • pay the required fee.
If you have engaged someone as your nominated supervisor, these requirements will apply to them.

To lodge your application, take it in person to your nearest Service Tasmania Outlet.

Lodgement process


You must give written notice to the Agency at least 5 days before undertaking asbestos removal work (other than in the event of an emergency).
