Description

You will need this licence if you intend to own or run a casino in Tasmania.

Currently, the Tasmanian Government has granted exclusive casino licences to the Federal Group to operate Wrest Point Hotel Casino and Country Club Casino in Tasmania.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You and your associates must:

  • be fit and proper persons
  • be of sound and stable financial background
  • be able to obtain the financial resources needed to ensure the financial viability of the casino or gaming operation
  • have sufficient business ability to maintain a successful casino or gaming operation
  • not have business association with any person, body or association that is not fit and proper having regard to character, honesty and integrity.

If you are not applying as a natural person, your organisation must:

  • have a satisfactory ownership, trust or corporate structure
  • ensure each person connected to the ownership, administration or management of your organisation is a suitable person.

Commencement

If an application has been made because an existing licence is due to expire, the new licence cannot take effect until the existing licence expires.
