Licence to Operate a Deer Farm - Tasmania

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to operate a deer farm. This licence applies to both commercial (meat and antler products) and non-commercial deer farms (hobby farms).

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must ensure that:

  • the plans for the proposed deer farm, fencing and site are acceptable, as determined by a Wildlife Management Officer from Game Services Tasmania
  • the farm is unlikely to cause a threat to the environment, the community or the property of another person
  • the proposed deer farming operators are fit and proper persons
  • the fence used, or to be used, is an agency approved fence.

All farm deer must be acquired from a registered deer farmer. All acquired deer must be recorded in a deer farm receipt book, which will be provided by Game Services Tasmania.

Duration

A re-inspection will be arranged by the agency 5 years after the grant of a licence.
