Dealer licence (macropods) - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence to buy, sell or process dead macropods. This licence applies to a specified site or premises.

There are 3 categories depending on your intended activities:

  • dealer site - allows macropod carcasses and skins to be purchased from licensed Queensland harvesters at a licensed premises (it does not allow processing of carcasses, meat or skins)
  • meat processing - allows macropod meat to be processed
  • tannery - allows macropod skins to be processed.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • not have a criminal conviction that relates to animal welfare issues or related conservation matters within the past three years.

The meat processing licence requires the premises to be in Queensland and to be accredited as a primary producer of macropod meat under the food production legislation.

The tannery and dealer site licence requires the premises to be in Queensland.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You must keep a record book or an approved electronic record system up to date and submit a return of operations each return period.

You must ensure that the macropods you purchase are tagged and are the authorised size and weight. Size and weight requirements are specified in the harvest notice for each harvest period.
