You will need this licence if you intend to fish for scalefish in Tasmanian waters. A scalefish licence will permit you to carry certain limited amounts of fishing equipment on a fishing vessel. There are three categories of licence:
- Scalefish A: Permits you to carry up to 1000 metres of graball net; 200 hooks; and 2 traps
- Scalefish B: Permits you to carry up to 500 metres of graball net; 200 hooks; and 2 traps
- Scalefish C: Permits you to carry up to 150 metres of graball net; or 200 hooks; or 1 trap.
Scalefish C licences are non-transferable and some Scalefish A and B licences may also be endorsed as non-transferable. If you intend to obtain a Scalefish A or B licence, you must purchase a licence package from a current licence holder. A licence package will also be comprised of a fishing licence (vessel) with the vessel length category appropriate for your fishing vessel.
