General Auctioneer Licence - Tasmania


You will require this licence if you intend to practise as a general auctioneer. If you are applying as the person conducting a general auctioneering business then you must apply to Part 3, Division 1 of the register either as a company or a sole trader. Applicants not intending to conduct a business in their own name must apply under Part 3, Division 2 of the register.

This licence will apply to people who intend to auction goods or chattels other than real estate (for example: cars, art work and other general goods). If you intend to auction real estate, you must hold a real estate agent's licence.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • satisfy the Board, by examination or inquiry, that you have sufficient knowledge and experience of general auctioneering business to be able to carry on a business under this licence or have completed certain compulsory units set by the Board
  • have the prescribed educational qualifications
  • be considered by the Board to be a fit and proper person of good reputation, both generally and financially
  • be prepared to undergo continuing education as specified by the Board
  • pay the relevant application fees.

The Board may request further evidence to satisfy them that you are qualified to be licensed or are a fit and proper person to be a General Auctioneer.
